GW 1
factions 2
nightfall 3
gw:en .5
zomg, 3.5 "chapters" of content. and please, do you actually think "most" of the people who bought this game knew there was a promise for more content? i bought this game 3 and some odd months ago having NO knowledge of expansion packs or anything of that sort. i have a strong feeling i was in the majority, as 90% of people who play games aren't up to date with news.

I don't see why enjoying something and complaining can't go together.
Let's focus on game mechanics, including skill changes for a moment, since you mentioned that.
I think there should be balance in a game. Balance means that someone skilled can achieve something while someone not so skilled can't achieve the same thing.
When this messes up the good players will leave the game, which in the end is bad for a game.
Now there is two kinds of complaints.
It's the 'not so good' that can't do what they like anymore.
Or it's the 'good' who see a change and the additional effects it has.
Simple, I've abused some skills and mechanics in the past because they were the most efficient. It's stupid not to do that.
However, the same tools gave unexperienced players almost the same power.
I don't mind players farming the entire UW, wrecking the economy or being able to get all their nice grinding titles.
What I do mind is teaming up with someone where at least some basic understanding of game mechanics is required to find out that their retard overpowered build got them there and not their skill.
And that's for both PvE and PvP.
Especially my former guild put a lot of effort developing players.
Team up with an experienced team, listen to tactics and why certain builds are used. And learn how to play on a somewhat higher level, not only a certain (team) build but a variation of builds. And why they work or don't work.
Nowadays things are different. Here you have your invincy build, don't understand it, just play it and you will get what you want in time.
And that's for both PvE and PvP.
This is bad for the game and specially past experiences in high-end PvE have proven this time after time.
That's the reason I complain from time to time, not because the game is bad but because the mechanics allow for things that don't improve skill.

/AGREE TOTALLY
Ive played the game nearly since the beginning and i'm still loving it. Its not very often ill still be playing a game from 3 and a half years ago (yes even prophecies is still played).
don't get me started on the other people aswell that say the Devs arn't listening at all etc. They don't even have to add extra content but they do. And when we do get something new peoplec complain.
Updating the game is something i think the team do very well, it keep it fresh. Skill updates may nerf particular skills but it allows us to be more creative and come up with the next big thing
Some people say certain staff members do nothing when we know perfectly well theres stuff outside the actual game. They do stuff we might not know about.
Theres the people who say Anet don't give us enough information. WE don't need this information, if they told us everything it kind of ruins any potential updates to the game (a somewhat element of surprise). You've got to understand that if Anet told us something then changed their mind last minute then theyre would be an uproar of people shouting "OMG ANET SUX THEY LIED ABOUT GIVIN US FREE ECTOZZ"

Because, as a race, people are miserable things that like to complain about how bad they have it. And if you're sitting on your butt in front of a computer, it's not like you can complain about the malaria you contracted or the fact you haven't eaten in three days. So you have to feel like the world is out to get you and you're the main character in your own tragic drama, you go on forums and complain about a video game.
And on a similar topic, thank you veterans for my freedom of speech.

No problem, citizen!
But 'to be totally honest', most complaints stem from the fact that the potential of GW as a competitive game was immense and ANet completely threw that away in order to get more immediate cash from underwhelming expansions. ANet could make an amazing PvE game, but I for one would still be critical of what they had let die out.

I have a couple of saying that might apply:
the squeaky wheel gets the grease,
if someone is unhappy they will tell 2 friends, if they are happy they might not tell anyone (eg people are more likely to complain about a service/item/etc than praise it).
and from japan:
the nail thats standing up will get pounded down (the opposite of the wheel).
enjoy

If no one complains, nothing gets changed. For an extreme examples, Look at duping a year ago, prior to some people on guru actually figureing out exactly how it worked for anet, there were threads from people talking about insane offers they were getting and wondering if somethign fishy was going on undeadgunners 1200 armbraces for a panda comes to mind). Ultimately it came down to people complaining about duping (and two giving them exact intructions how it was done) that lead to anet taking some action. Another was 117 mallyx exploit. Pablo24 had reported the bug months b4, but until someone posted it on guru, nothing was done. Same with the name cloning, 6 month year old bug, didn't get fixed until the guru qq'ing began. Now I know these are exteme. But I think most complaints are about the same as the rits having exhaustion with their skills, which did get changed back with help of the massive complaints of it. Plus the pvp/pve skill spliting was another idea added because of the complaints of farm builds being ruined because of pvp (splinter weapon nerfs were alwasy justified with how OP is was in VoD)

Free content? Lets not forget MOX and the GOLEM Book... among all the updated PvP Awards every month... (No I'm not a PvP Person Either) Thing is Anet isn't getting any more $$$ but they keep the servers up, they give us different bonus' weekends, all these things cost money yet they aren't getting any from us...

Your math is a bit off in that since GW Phophecies was released at year 0, not 1 year after GW was released.
But still, A.net didn't "break their promise" since they specifically said they were stopping making new content after GW:EN, so you really only have to consider the first 2.5 years I mean, seriously, nobody should have expected GW to release 9 chapters. All things have a shelf life.

Depends on your money, how much interest and contribution you put towards your education and whether you're not afraid of going on a plane, boat or car. Hey, some people are.

If you want to get anywhere in life, you have to do this. An education is basically needed to get around.
I personally hate where I live and the school I go to, but I might as well make the most of it because it's mandatory and forced upon me. I would go live on some sort of island and a school with lots of hot girls, but I can't. Guild Wars, on the other hand is completely optional and is only limited to you by the small sum of cash for the game. If you don't enjoy it, you don't have to do it. The things above, on the other hand are needed and need more looking into than some people think.

Too many people crying about constant skill changes, which are necessary. The game is fairly easy, although it would be nice if my W/E Frenzy+wards for defense build was a little better in PvE.
You're not paying a monthly fee for a pretty decent game.
So, y'know - chill out.

There are always bound to be things in a game that people don't like, which is why they QQ. if GWs (or any game for that matter) could please everyone to the point they couldn't QQ then it would be the most popular game in exsistence and everyone would play it. people who don't like the game don't play it. Those who do play it can't honestly say they love every single aspect about the game. People are entitled to thier opinions, so let them have it. Stop QQ'ing just because someone doesn't like/agree somthing you do.

This is exactly it.
I do not want to play a fantasy MMO. And by this I mean what farazz is talking about. I do not want to play WoW, or War, or FFXI, or any of the others that I don't care enough to look up. If I wanted to play them, I would be playing them.
I do not want to play alone; why play an online game alone, there are console games? I do not want to team up with real people to take down mythical beasts and dragons; why subject myself to grinding and organizing my schedule around this when I can do exactly the same at my leasure on a console? I play for competing against other real people.
Guild Wars is the only game in the ballpark for a fantasy-rpg competitive game. Every other competitive game is RTS, FPS, Fighting games, cards, and few others.
Back when GW was first released and through the GWWC the game was much more fun to play than it is now.
That is why I complain.

I don't think you guys realize that all the QQ and all that is so that Anet can hopefully see it. There is so many QQ threads and stuff because people repeat the same things over and over and Anet doesn't actually look at it. I don't care about new content and stuff, I want the content we have now fixed. If QQing here helps, I'ma do it even If I get 9 posters immediatly telling me to stop crying and that Shadowform is fine.
I like to lurk here, but the sad thing is how eager everyone is to jump at each others throats for complaining. Sure, some stuff is stupid to complain about and I don't hold Anet to create a new area or something extreme every few months, but some skill adjustments here and there that take longer than 2 minutes to change would be really appreciated.
